My name is Jessica (Jessi) McLeod and I originally hail from Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Canada. I am a member of the Gwich’in Nation in Treaty 11 territory.
I’m currently in my third year of my Bachelor of Education at the Yukon College in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. When I’m not working towards this degree you can find me at my job with NWT Courts as a clerk, bushwhacking with my dogs in the trails around Whitehorse and Yellowknife, or in my kitchen cooking up something delicious!
The resiliency and potential that students demonstrate each day is what inspires me to be a positive role model for youth and my community and what has led me to want a career in education. I am also a social justice advocate and activist, with my focus on indigenous resurgence and restitution, and breaking down gender inequity. I’m looking forward to finishing up with school and becoming an in-service teacher, though I will miss those mid-afternoon “study” naps dearly!
Follow me on this learning journey while I work on being a “goal-getter”!
